Carter (カーター Kātā) is a character in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, Another Wonderful Life, and A Wonderful Life Special Edition.
He is the town's archaeologist who works at the Excavation Site with his assistant Flora. Carter will let you dig at the dig site and help him find archeology wonders. The only items that he will keep are tablets, potential pieces of an ancient civilization. The rest of the items are yours to do with what you please. They typically sell for a high price at Van's shop.
Carter and Flora live together in their tent near the excavation site. Despite rumors, Carter and Flora are initially not a couple. However, you can trigger an event where he declares his love for Flora in a dramatic fashion, but when she runs to him she accidentally knocks him into the river. Although Carter is usually hard at work, he enjoys walks through town and frequents the Blue Bar during the evening. Early in the morning, Carter stretches just outside his tent before getting started with work for the day.
In the later chapters, Carter becomes a possible boss for your child. If (s)he becomes scholarly, (s)he may take over Carter's Dig Site and grow up to become a fine archaeologist.
When befriending Carter, homemade dishes and food are best. Carter will say that Flora's cooking is terrible, but he'll never confront her about it. Bringing Carter other food that he can secretly eat will make him happy.
In the special edition, if you befriend him, he will give you the "Summer Memories" record. Talk to him at the beach when he visits on days Van is in town.

That Lucky Archeologist!
Exit the ruins at around 5pm at any time during chapter 2. Carter will thank you for your work, then Flora will come up and meet you. You'll walk off, and Carter and Flora will start talking to each other about trivial matters. On the other side of the river, Daryl is watching them, muttering to himself about how lucky Carter is to live with Flora. Flora will eventually spot him, and Daryl will freak out and run away.[1]

In Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life and Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition, go to the ruins during chapter 5, on a clear morning while Carter is outside the dig site without Flora, to see an event where Carter has a fantasy about confessing to Flora.[2]
