Chickens are animals available in Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns.
Fully grown adult chickens will lay one egg every day as long as they are happy and healthy. Regular Chickens can be purchased and kept from the game's start, and Silkie Chickens are available starting in Year 2.[1] Chickens can be purchased from Jessica. Baby chicks cost 800G, and adults cost 1500G. Silkie Chicks cost 2000G and adult Silkies cost 6000G.[2]
If you start out living in Bluebell, Jessica will give you your first chick free of charge. A fully sized barn upgraded in Bluebell can hold up to 10 chickens at once.[3] If you live in Konohana, there is a maximum of two chickens allowed to be kept at any one time.[4] Regular Chickens can live up to a maximum of 6 years, the lifespan being 5 years maximum for Silkie Chickens.[5]
There is no incubator for hatching baby chicks like in previous versions. You can either buy a new chick from Jessica's, or pay 700G for Jessica to breed your chicken. If you choose to breed your chicken, Jessica will take it for two weeks and return the parent and the new chick to you after this time. The chick will have half as many heart as it's parent.[6] Regardless of how they are obtained, chicks take a full 8 days to mature into an adult chicken if fed every day.[7]
Golden eggs can only be laid by chickens who win the Animal Festival.[8] The chicken festival will take place on odd numbered years, and you must be living in Bluebell to take part. If a regular chicken wins, there is a 30% chance that they will lay a golden egg instead of a regular egg. A Silkie Chicken has a 55% chance to lay a Golden Egg after winning the Animal Festival.[9] Eggs can be turned into mayonnaise if there is a mayonnaise maker available. They can also be cooked, used in recipes, or turned into spa-boiled eggs.
