Cows are a livestock animal that appear in Harvest Moon GBC 3.
Cows can be purchased from the Farmer's Union after the player has six full plots of grass in the yard. While purchasing, the player can choose between male cows, which are used from breeding, or female cows, which produce milk. Both genders can be shown in contests. They will live in the third barn over with a max of eight cows - or four to each room.
Stages[]
Calf
Calves are the youngest stage of cow which are obtained from breeding a male and female cow together. They serve no use to the player as they are not able to produce milk or be bred.
It takes a total of 14 days for a newborn calf to mature into a juvenile cow.
Juvenile Cow
Juvenile cows are cows who have not yet fully matured. However, with proper love and care, they will fully mature into an adult cow. All cows bought from the Farmer's Market are at this stage.
It takes 22 days for a juvenile to fully mature into an adult cow. At that point, the cow will not grow anymore.
Mature Cow
Mature cows are fully grown and can serve the player in various ways. Female cows may be milked daily so long as they are healthy and happy. Male cows cannot produce anything and are only used for breeding. All mature cows may also be entered into a contest once in their lives and winning will help raise your farm's reputation. Finally, mature cows can be sold for 5000G to the farmer's union.
Pregnant Cow
A healthy adult male and female cow can be paired in a breeding pen to impregnate the female - they will remain in the pen for a day and, if not bred, will be in a bad mood.
Once pregnant, a female will not produce milk, cannot be sold, and cannot be entered into contests. They will remain pregnant and must be cared for as normal for (?) days until the calf is born.
Care[]
In order to keep any cow happy and healthy, they require careful attention. Cows must be fed by placing fodder in the feeders every day. They can also eat mature grass if left outside overnight - however, you need to own a dog and the weather must be sunny the next day or the cow will become unhappy. Cows may also be brushed daily if you're playing as Sara. They can also be let outside into the pastures by talking to them - but they must be let inside before you go to bed or they will get upset.
If cows are not fed for four days they will grow ill and will require medicine. If you do not treat them, they will die three days later from the illness.
A cow's mood can be determined by talking to it. Ideally, your cow is happy and healthy - anything less will cause them to not produce and possibly even die.
- Healthy: "Moo♡. OK [Cow]. You are happy today."
- Unhappy: "Moo.... Are you unhappy, [Cow]....?"
- Sick: ".... Moo .... [Cow] is sick! Medicine!"
