Cows are a livestock animal that appear in Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories. They have two different breeds of cow that the player is able to raise - the standard cow and the brown cow. Each breed has its own type of produce.
Cows can be purchased from Hunter's Shop and will live in the barn. Alongside other livestock animals they will live in the barn - where the player is capped at five livestock or seven if they upgrade to a larger barn. They will then produce milk once fully matured, which can be sold as is or cooked in some recipes.
Care[]
All cows need to be fed daily. The player can either put feed into the feed troughs inside the barn or ring the bell to let cows out to graze if they have mature grass on the property. Though cows may be fed any type of feed the higher quality feed used will increase the odds of getting higher quality produce (Grass -> Normal Feed -> Great Feed -> Delicious Feed). It should be noted that grazing does increase a cow's affection. However, fresh grass will wilt after three days, and a cow cannot be let out to graze if it is raining.
Cows should also be pet daily and must be brushed every other day - both these actions will happen automatically once interacting with the cow and require no extra effort from the player.
Stages[]

Calf 15 days |
Mature Cow 3 year lifespan |
Pregnant Cow 5 days * |
* Note: This date may be extended by one or more if the player has bred multiple cows on the same day.
Calf[]
These are the cows that have not fully grown. All cattle will begin at this stage - whether purchased from Hunter or bred using a miracle potion. Calves will be unable to produce milk but will still need to be cared for like a mature cow by petting, brushing, and feeding them as needed. They can also still get sick if not cared for.
With proper love and care, the cow will fully mature into an adult cow. It takes a full 15 days for a calf to grow into a mature adult cow.
Mature Cow[]
Mature adult cows are the player's real source of income as they are capable of producing milk every day that varies in quality depending on their affection with the player - the happier the cow, the more valuable milk the player will get. The quality of milk can also be influenced by the type of feed used for the cattle, with higher quality feed increasing the odds of higher quality milk. However, cows will only produce milk if they are in a good mood, have eaten that day, are healthy and are not pregnant.
Mature cows may die any morning after they reach the three years old mark.
Pregnant Cow[]
Healthy adult cows can be impregnated using a miracle potion which can be purchased from Hunter for 8000G. When a cow becomes pregnant, they will lay down and refuse to move from the hay nesting stalls and cannot be milked or let out to graze until their calf is born. This allows the player to slack off for a few days. Pregnant cows will be stuck at the 'full' and 'clean' status conditions and their condition will be replaced with 'pregnant' meaning that they won't be able to get sick.
Five days after being given the miracle potion, Hunter will come to the player's house in the morning to inform them their cow has successfully given birth and allows the player to name their new bundle of joy. Only one cow can give birth a day, however, so a cow's pregnancy may be extended by a day if the player bred two cows in one day.

Milk can be cooked into a few items in the kitchen once the player has the respective recipe from Hana. Two milks can be crafted into yogurt for no additional costs or items. Additionally, milk can be made into butter or cheese with the addition of salt. Though it should be kept in mind that the player will technically be losing money if they choose to make these for profit since the cost of materials to cook them are more than the selling price. They are, however, cheaper than buying them from Hana directly.
