Denny (ダニー, Danī^?) is bachelor in Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands.

He has earned his living as a fisherman since he was a kid. He's incredibly optimistic, and always has a positive outlook on life, and a smile on his face. He is proud of his fishing skills, but always enjoys a challenge. Like Lanna, he also has fishing equipment and trinkets in his house.

Denny lives in a small hut on the beach of Sprout Island. He spends a lot of time on the beach, but also goes to Chen's shop, the café and the diner. He never ventures off of Sprout and Verdure island, however. He spends a lot of time with Lanna, who is your rival for his affection.

The bird that always sits on Denny's shoulder is named Popper, and the two are never separated. He hosts the Fishing Festival every summer.

Heart Events

Purple Heart Event

Enter Denny's house when he has a purple heart or higher. On sunny days, enter between 8 and 10 (am or pm). If it's raining, enter between 8am and 11am or 9pm and 11pm. If it's a Friday and raining, enter between 12pm and 6pm.

You'll see that Denny is trying to repair some of his fishing nets. It's important to take care of his equipment, because if he doesn't, he won't be able to catch any fish! He teaches you a lesson on how to tie knots.

If you tell Denny that tying knots is tough, he'll encourage you. He thinks that you did a good job and thanks you for your help.

Blue Heart Event

Walk from Verdure Island to Sprout Island on a rainy day. On every day except Friday, the event can be triggered from 2pm until 5pm. On Friday, it can be seen from 6pm until 9pm. Denny must be at a blue heart color or higher, and you must have already seen the purple heart event.

Denny is on Sprout Island today gazing out to sea. Denny comments that the seas are rough today due to the weather. The bird on his shoulder, Popper, then repeats what Denny just said. Denny introduces you to his pet bird. Popper seems to want to talk to you alone and asks Denny to leave! Denny apologizes, but suddenly sees something out in the water. He's curious, and wants to take a closer look.

If you tell Denny that you'd also like to see what's out in the water, he offers to stay on the beach with you. It's difficult to see things that are way out in the sea, especially in weather like this. Popper teases Denny by saying he has a crush on you, and Denny embarrassingly tells Popper to stop.

Green Heart Event

Enter the cafe between 2pm and 4pm on any clear day, or alternatively, enter between 8am and 12pm if it's a rainy Friday. Denny must have a green heart color or more and all previous events must have been watched previously.

You walk into the café and see Denny. He confides that he used to always be embarrassed to come into the café after a day of fishing because he wasn't sure if he smelled too much like the ocean. 

If you tell Denny not to be embarrassed about it, he thanks you for trying to make him feel better. Him and Popper both think it's great that you two have a lot in common.

Yellow Heart Event

Denny's final event will take place automatically as you enter your farmhouse between 10am and 5pm on any sunny day, as long as Denny has a yellow heart minimum. and all previous events have been watched.

Denny has come to invite you to do something on this sunny day. If you decline his offer, Denny will leave, but if you accept, you and Denny will go for a walk.

Denny asks to stop at Chen's store. When Chen sees you two together, he asks if you're out on a date. Denny embarrassingly tells him no. As you browse the shop, Denny sees that Chen has new stock in and buys a few things. Chen thanks Denny for his patronage and mentions that you also have an eye for some of Chen's stock. As you and Denny leave the store, Chen suggests that Denny take his "lady friend" somewhere a little more fancy. Denny still denies any romantic involvement and insists that you two are just friends.

This event will end at 6pm and you'll return to your farmhouse.

Rival Heart Events

1st Rival Event

Enter Sprout Island via Verdure Island on a clear day between 10am and 1pm. It must be Year 2 or later. Either Denny or Lanna must have a black heart.

Denny is returning home and sees Lanna. She's feeling a bit down since she was unable to catch any fish today. Denny can't help but laugh, but Lanna asks him to try and be more sympathetic! Denny explains that fish don't always bite and it's not so bad when they don't because it's more of a challenge! Denny thinks fishing would be too easy otherwise. His positive outlook has cheered Lanna up.

2nd Rival Event

Visit Nick's diner between 5pm and 7pm any clear day in Year 3 or later. Either Denny or Lanna must be at a green heart color or less. Alternatively, the event can be seen at any affection level if the player is married. The first event must have already been seen.

Denny goes to join Lanna for dinner and realizes her whole table is full of desserts! Lanna offers to share, but Denny doesn't want to eat dessert. Lanna is a bit offended that Denny won't join her, but he explains that he prefers to eat healthy. When Denny tells Lanna that desserts are only for a special occasion, she offers to bake him a cake. That would be special and he would have no choice but to eat it! Denny agrees.

Rival Proposal

Enter Sprout Island via Verdure Island on a clear day between 4pm and 7pm. It must be Year 4 or later. Either Denny or Lanna must be at an orange heart color or less. Alternatively, the event can be seen at any affection level if the player is married. The first two events must have already been seen.

Denny and Lanna are on the beach staring out at the ocean. They comment on what a great day they've both had. Denny tries to ask Lanna something but stops abruptly and then becomes quiet. Lanna is worried that Denny might be sick! She asks how she can help him, and Denny is finally able to ask Lanna to marry him. Denny thinks Lanna is the perfect person for him and would love to be with her, even if he doesn't have much to offer except for his love. He doesn't wait for a reply and starts to walk away. Lanna stops him and says that she accepts his proposal.

Rival Wedding

Rival weddings take place a week after the proposal event. The wedding date will be pushed forward a day if the wedding day lands on a festival day, a typhoon, or a blizzard.

On the morning of a rival wedding, the bride (if playing as Chelsea) or groom (if playing as Mark) will come over to invite you to the wedding. You will go to the church for the ceremony. The wedding lasts the entire day and you will be unable to do any of your daily farm work either before or after the ceremony. After the wedding is over, you will be brought back to the farmhouse the following day.

After marriage, Denny will move into Lanna's home. He will still visit his old shack on the beach from time to time.

Other Events

Fishing Follies

Denny must have at least 6 hearts to trigger this event and you must own the fishing rod. Enter Denny's house between 8am and 10am or 8pm to 10pm on a sunny/cloudy day. If it's raining, enter his house between 8am and 11am or 9pm and 10pm.

Denny greets you, curious about the rumors he's heard about your great fishing rod. Even if the rumors are true, great tools don't mean anything without skill. Denny thinks back to all the junk he used to catch when he first started fishing. He asks you to try and guess the craziest thing he's ever caught.

Regardless of your answer, Denny will say that you are technically correct, revealing that he's actually caught all three things (a mannequin, pair of dentures and a bicycle)! Denny is shocked that people would so easily throw things into the sea like that. He reminds you to take care of the water and not to litter.

Trivia

• If you have 7 hearts with Denny, he will give you a present when you speak to him on your birthday. There are three different presents available, depending on the year. He will give you either Fish and Chips (Year 1), Sashimi (Year 2) or Carpaccio (Year 3). These gifts will continue in a set rotation every three years.
  • If he gives you Sashimi, you can gift it back to him for a major boost of affection (or save it for his birthday in your refrigerator for even more heart points).
• Denny is the only villager who seemingly 'disappears' for a short period of time. Between 6am and 8am, there will be no map icon for Denny anywhere on the map. He will then be seen inside of his home at 8am.
