The protagonist can fish in five different areas: Goddess Pond, Upper River, Lower River, Turtle Pond, and the Sea.
Overview[]
Fishing can be performed by the player with the Fishing Rod at any body of water.
The Fishing Rod can be purchased from Van on his first visit. Each body of water is home to different species of fish; upstream river, downstream river, ocean, the pond (sometimes called the "Marsh", or the "Turtle pond"), and the spring (often called the "Goddess pond"). There are four sizes of each fish species: Li'l, Regular, Large, and Huge
Like most tools in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life the fishing rod can be upgraded throughout the chapters in the game.[1] Unlocking the upgrade requires the player to use the tool a certain amount of times for each upgrade and requires a certain date to be reached. Each upgrade of the Fishing Rod allows the player to catch different kinds of fish, typically more valuable, in the fishing areas. The first upgrade is the Copper Fishing Rod which is available for 1,000G from Van starting in Autumn 3 in Year 1 after using the normal fishing rod to catch 50 fish.[1] The second upgrade, the Silver Fishing Rod, is obtained in Year 2 Spring 3 after purchasing it from Van for 10,000G and catching 200 fish.[1] The Gold Fishing Rod is obtained in Year 3 on Spring 3 from Van, it is available for 50,000G after catching 500 fish.[1] The last upgrade is the Goddess Fishing Rod which is obtained by completing a special request from Gary available on Spring 1 Year 4, the special request becomes available after befriending Gary and obtaining the Golden Fishing Rod. Gary's request is to bring him one Huge Fish of any kind.[1]
Wild animals are indicators for better fishing locations; it is uncertain whether wild animals denote that a location will have a more frequent bite rate or spawn larger fish. Checking your Luck Stat on the TV for each day is theorized to denote the chances of getting bigger fish that day.
Lucky Animal Sightings[]
- Raccoon: Found by Vesta's Farm (above the windmills and in the corner), the raccoon is linked to better fishing in the downstream area.
- Turtle: When the turtle in a bandana appears, fishing is better at Turtle Pond.
- Lizard: When the lizard appears near the water where you can cross between the Dig Site and the Goddess Pond Area, fishing is better in the upper river area (?) and/or waterfall area.
- Owl: Found in the branches of the Harvest Sprite's Tree, when the owl appears, fishing is better at the Goddess Pond.
