Galen (ガリ Gari? lit. Gary) is a character in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition, and Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life.
Galen is an elderly man living in the valley with his wife Nina. The couple moved from the city into the valley for a quiet retirement. He is an avid fisherman and will gladly accept any fish the player offers him. Befriending Galen before you're married and your child is born is recommended, as things change for him drastically in the following chapters.
During the first chapter, Galen lives with his wife (across from the Blue Bar) In a small apartment. After Nina dies at the end of the first chapter, Galen moves to a small shack (Hilltop House) next to Vesta's farm and Dr. Hardy moves into their old home.
After Nina dies, Galen becomes more moody and reclusive. He becomes hard to socialize with and mourns his wife's death for years after the fact. When the player tries to interact with him, he often asks to be left alone. He will no longer accept gifts.
If befriended, Galen will give the player a fishing rod. After Nina dies, Galen may also ask the player to polish Nina's grave through a mini game. If the player decides to polish Nina's grave, afterwards the player will be able to see a figure resembling Nina who gives thanks for cleaning her grave. If not befriended in the first chapter, the only way to get friendship is by cleaning Nina's grave.
