Harvest Moon GB was the first Harvest Moon game to be released on Gameboy.

Plot

When the game starts, the main character's grandfather's spirit appears to you, asking you to renovate his farm. You have a year (4 seasonsto bring the farm back to fruition. After the year has passed, you will be evaluated to see how well you did your job.

Gameplay

Renovating the farm means you must remove all the weeds from the farmland, crush the rocks littering the ground, and use an axe to chop up the tree stumps. You must also till the land and plant crops for profit, and keep animals to sell their produce.

Another feature of this game are the Harvest Sprites. Once you have made friends with them, they will help you out on your farm.

The Farm

The House

The house starts off as very small, but can be expanded by the Carpenter. The house has a TV that predicts the next day's weather, and a small telephone used to trade between Gameboys.

The Farm

The farm has one large field, where crops and grass can be planted. Crops must be watered once a day. Grass does not need to be watered.

Each crop has its ideal growing season and will do poorly if planted at the wrong time of year.

Spring:

  • Turnips
  • Potatoes

Summer:

  • Tomatoes
  • Corn

Fall:

  • Eggplant
  • Peanuts

Winter:

  • Carrots
  • Broccoli

The Village

You can't walk round the village, but you can visit several shops. These shops are:

Animals

Harvest Sprite Cave

Behind the Tool Shed is a cave where the HS live. To the north of the cave is the Harvest Goddess lake where you can fish. To the east is the hot spring, where the player can rejuvanate him or herself. The West exit takes you to the mining cave, which you can smash rocks in once you have earned the Pickax from your Grandpa.

Harvest Sprites will become your friends if you give them the mushrooms growing in the cave.

Winning

On the 30th of Winter, Grandpa's Spirit will evaluate you.

- number of chickens you own - number of cows you own - amount of soil you have cultivated - the total amount of crops you've shipped - type of house you own - maximum cow affection rate - amount of money - your happiness rating - and the number of Power Berries you've eaten.

If you've met his guidelines to becoming a Ranch Master, Grandpa will give you a gift. Otherwise he will enlarge your farm.

To become a Ranch Master:

  • 4 adults of each animal
  • Cultivate 1600 pieces of soil
  • Ship 4500 items
  • Own the SuperDeluxe Wood House
  • Earned 65536 gold
  • Have a 250 happiness rating
  • Eaten at least 6 Power Berries.

Gifts

  • Fishing Rod - Fish in the Goddess' pond (300 G each)
  • Pickax - Smash the rocks in the west room of the Sprite's cave to find a Power Berry.
  • Umbrella - Makes it rain the next day so you don't have to water the crops
