The horse is a livestock animal that is gifted to you by Takakura on Summer 1st of your first year. He will prompt the player to guess what color it is (between brown, black, or white) and this will be the color the horse appears as. The horse will then live in the barn, with the trough appearing wherever the player chooses to place it.
It is only used for faster travel and does not produce any items that you can ship. However, that doesn't mean you can neglect it. The player is still required to talk to it, feed it, and brush it daily.
