The Horse is automatically acquired during the third day of the first year's Spring and comes with a carraige that can be attached to it. They can be in three sizes and four colors per size. New horses can be rented at either Grady's Animals or Kana's Animals for either 5000 G (Pony), 10,000 G (Thoroughbred) or 20,000 G (Shetland).
The Thoroughbred Horse is unlocked after the first tunnel expansion is completed and can carry medium-sized carts easily. The Shetland Horse is unlocked after completing three tunnel expansions and renting a Thoroughbred for the first time. It can carry any cart easily. You can also buy horse treats for 150G each but they aren't recommended as friendship with the horse isn't important.
