Hn? Why'd I quit my singin' career? Well, I'd just had Noel, and I decided I wanted to take better care of my family than I'd been. Bein' a singer means travelin' all over the place to perform here there and everywhere. Can't avoid that. A body can sing anywhere, but a baby girl's only got one ma who's in one place at one time, right? So that's why I decided to retire.
My hubby, though, he wanted me to stay up on the stage. We got in a real big fight over that, among other things.
My decision to retire brought to light how we both valued things differently. In the end, that's what broke us up.

Trends change in a flash, y'know. Keepin' up with the newest ideas and information can be real tough. I could probably get better information faster if I moved to a bigger town...but I don't think I'll do that.
I like this little corner of the world too much. And besides, the harder ya work for somethin', the more worth it it feels, right?

I've loved singin' ever since I was a little gal. When I was just 6 years old, I got to join a local chorus. That's when I learned how fun it was to sing for people. At eighteen, I joined a famous theater troupe and made my debut as a soprano.
I can still hear the sound of the standin' ovation from the crowd when I finished that performance.

I guess that for folks who left the stage for reasons they didn't like might see it as an opportunity to get back up there. But for folks like me who retired for good reasons, it just ain't worth the bother. That's why I turned down their request.

Sometimes I can't help but wonder if I'm doin' the right thing by Noel, given how not havin' a pa might be affectin' her.
But every time she turns and smiles up at me, I get the feelin' that I'm managin' to do all right. There ain't any one single "correct" way to raise a child. As her ma, I'm not exactly equipped to be a pa to her, too...But I plan on tryin' to be the very best ma I can be for her an' give her a life full of smiles and happiness.
