Mounts are a branch of wild animals that can be tamed in Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos alongside pets. They will live in the player's barn and can all be ridden across Anthos at quicker speeds and with less stamina loss, so a mount is crucial to for exploring Anthos. The player can own as many mounts as they want, and any can be ridden from the barn. However, one mount can also be set as the favorite mount via the animal ledger in the barn. The favorite mount can be summoned instantly anywhere by pressing down on the D Pad.
Mounts can be bought from the animal shop or tamed from the wild. Wild Animals can be found all over the world and befriended by the player by petting them and giving them edible items- being able to be tamed after reaching eight notes of friendship. Different types of animals can be found in different areas and during different times of day.
Befriending Mounts[]
The first time you encounter an animal each day, they will flee from the player and disappear from view unless the player is crouching until they pet them. Some animals are extra skittish and will require you to walk even slower or will startle from a further distance than others so be careful! Once the red exclamation mark appears above the head of at least one animal in the group, you must crouch and remain crouched until you pet ALL animals in the group. The player will then be able to freely pet and gift each animal to raise their affection and after reaching eight music notes you will be able to bring them home.
Once tamed, you can't just start neglecting your mounts! Their speed will be raised based on their affection with the player. They can be groomed and given a gift daily just as before. These domesticated animals will have their own gift preferences, and these will be unique to each individual animal so two animals of the same species may have two different favorite gifts.
Mount Skills[]
Certain species will be able to move faster or can be ridden in certain biomes so it's important to take these skills into account when you pick your favorite mount!
- Horses can move faster in grassy biomes but will move slower than walking in the desert and snowy biomes.
- Reindeer can be ridden faster in grassy and snowy biomes but will move slower than walking in the desert.
- Camels can be ridden faster in grassy biomes and the desert but will move slower than walking in the snowy biomes.
- Raptors and Unicorns [DLC] can be ridden quicker than all other mounts in all biomes.
