Rainbows (ToT)

The five rainbows are a crucial element in the game Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility. It is considered a major part of the main quest, and you may begin finding and accessing these rainbows after you find and reunite the two halves of the quilt, which is necessary for the Harvest Sprites to talk to you.

Accessing the rainbows allows you to unlock new areas and places, such as Mt. Gelato and Gull Islands, and, consequently, also unlocks the characters that reside in such places, allowing more people to visit and frequent Waffle Island, and giving you access to new stores, potential spouses and even pets.

General Information[]

While exploring the island, you may have encountered one or a few of the five large trees that have a small colored flower at the base of it. Each of these flowers represents one of the five Harvest Sprites, and when you have the completed quilt, watering the flower in front of the tree will prompt the Harvest Sprite to pop up, and he will then give you a recipe. If you gather all the items he asks for and return to the tree, you will have completed a rainbow, which acts as a bridge of sorts, taking you to a new area that was previously inaccessible.

Preparations[]

As mentioned, before you can begin the rainbows quests, you have to complete the quilt first. For an in-depth explanation on how to do so, visit the main article: The Quilt (ToT).

It is a good idea to plan ahead and start gathering as many rainbow recipe items as you can early on in the game. Some items cannot be gained until much later in the game, but if you are careful and aware, there are other means of getting it earlier, and you don't want to miss the chance (e.g. Apples only grow in Fall, and it is an ingredient in the first rainbow; your only option would be to buy a seedling from Soufflé Farm and wait until it grows in the Fall for harvest, but there is also a stand at the flea market during the last week of Spring that sells apples, and buying it then will save you a lot of time).

The Five Rainbows[]

Daren's Rainbow[]

Daren is the green Harvest Sprite. His tree and flower are located in the Town Square, near the Town Hall. It is the first rainbow to complete, and doing so will unlock West Gull Island, as well as Toucan Island. You can also meet many new villagers by completing this rainbow, including Candace and Luna, who are potential spouses.

Grilled Yam	Grow a Yam, and grill it on the beach, using a box of Matches (buyable at the General Store). Alternatively, you can buy a ready-made Grilled Yam at the first or second flea-market of the year, during the last week of Spring or Summer. This saves a lot more time, as Yams only grow in the Fall.
Apple	Buy an Apple Seedling from Soufflé Farm, and grow it in your plot. Alternatively, you can buy Apples at the first and second flea-market of the year, during the last week of Spring and Summer, or purchase them from Soufflé Farm in the Fall. This saves a lot more time, as Apples only grow in the Fall, and the tree takes two seasons to grow.
Good Herb Fish	Make it at home using a fish and any herb. It will be considered "Good" if the value of the ingredients add up to 300 to 600G. Good Herb Fish is made in the oven. It is suggested that using an eel and a green herb will give you a perfect herb fish, but good or higher will still work for the recipe.
Common Seashell	Found on the beach. Seashells are not very often found in Cream Beach in winter in Waffle Town.
Carp	Catch it downstream, midstream, in the river or Maple Lake.

Ben's Rainbow[]

Ben is the blue Harvest Sprite. His tree and flower are located in the Maple Lake District, near Toby's house. It's the third rainbow to complete (see below for the reason). Completing this rainbow unlocks the base of Mt. Gelato.

Grilled Eggplant	Grow an Eggplant (only grows in the fall), and grill it on the beach, using a box of Matches (buyable at the General Store).
Plain Omelet	Make it at home using butter, egg and frying pan. Alternatively, simply buy it from the Spring or Summer flea market.
Green Herb	Can be found in various places, such as Praline Forest, Waffle Town (empty patch across from Sundae Inn) and Brownie Ranch District. They can also be bought from Ruth at the Flower Festival.
Good Tomato	Grow it on your farm (Summer crop).
Char	Catch it in the river or upstream.

Collin's Rainbow[]

Collin is the yellow Harvest Sprite. His tree and flower are located on West Gull Island, which is accessible after you complete Daren's rainbow. It's the second rainbow to complete. Completing this rainbow unlocks East Gull Island.

Blue Wonderful	Found in the mines.
Red Wool Yarn	Put wool into a yarn maker, then dye it with a red herb OR flower using a dye pot.
Banana	Can be found on Toucan Island. You can also buy it from Samson (on Toucan Island).
Perfect Spinach	Grow it on your farm (Fall crop). Buy it from Soufflé Farm in Fall.
Saury	Catch it in the ocean or river (Fall/Winter only).

Alan's Rainbow[]

Alan is the red Harvest Sprite. His tree and flower are located on Brownie Ranch. It's the fourth rainbow to complete. Completing this rainbow unlocks the peak of Mt. Gelato.

Green Bell	Grow it on your farm (Winter crop).
Carrot Cake	Make it at home, using breadfruit, carrot, milk, butter, and egg in the oven Alternatively, simply buy it from the Fall flea market.
Toadstool	Found commonly in mines.
Ostonnaise	Put an ostrich egg in a Mayonnaise Maker. Alternatively, you can buy it from Spring/Summer flea market.
Wood Fish	Catch it in the Goddess Spring (not accessible until after completing Ben's Rainbow). Must be night time, and you must use a fishing rod of at least level 3, and upgraded to silver.

Edge's Rainbow[]

Edge is the purple Harvest Sprite. His tree and flower are located at the top of Mt. Gelato. It's the fifth rainbow to complete as the player must complete Alan's Rainbow to access Edge's Tree. Completing this rainbow unlocks the Goddess Tree.

Item	Ways to Obtain
Snowflake (Flower)	Grow on your farm (Winter crop). Alternatively, you can buy one at the Spring/Summer flea market (Year One or later at the Summer flea market). You can also get it if you do the 6-heart event with Anissa, a potential spouse. She will talk to you in the middle of noon and ask you to grow a snowflake flower. Grow 2–6, harvest 1-5 and put them in storage, then get 1 to give to Anissa (can do this in any season, and if you have done all of the heart events for her including this one, you will soon be able to marry her.
Red Honey	Grow red flowers (tulips, hibiscus, rose, anemone), and when they bloom, some may attract bees. Harvest it then, and instead of receiving a flower, you will get Red Honey.
Lapis Lazuli	Found in mines (Blue Wonderful with one sparkle, refine by Mira). Alternatively, you can find one during the scavenger hunt (five items hidden on island wrapped as gifts; a Lapis Lazuli can be found on the west side of the island).
Perfect Honeydew	Grow it on your farm (Summer crop, and can get this easy with fertilizer).
Tuna	Catch it in the ocean.

Ben's Badge[]

After you complete Ben's rainbow, he tells you he lost his badge. You have to find it for him. In order to find it, you have to complete Collin's rainbow, and then go back and talk to Ben. He will tell you where he lost his badge during a cut scene. Go to the East Gull Island and walk around on the beach until a cut scene happens, that is when you will find the badge. You then have to go back to Ben and water his flower to give him the badge.
