Rod (ロッド, Roddo) is a bachelor in Harvest Moon 3DS: A New Beginning.

Rod is an energetic young man who is always smiling and optimistic. He runs the pet shop in town, and takes pride in knowing everything that there is to know about pets. He is a childhood friend of Allen, but also likes to spend time with Neil, as they both share a passion for animals.

His pet shop is located in the plaza of town, and you are able to buy cats, dogs, and horses from his store. He's open from Monday until Thursday.

Heart Events

Black Heart Event

In order to see the first event, Rod has to have 5,000 FP (black heart) or more, and you must own at least one chicken. It will take place at Rod's house in between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Rod: That's it, perfect! Well done, well done! MC: *goes up to Rod* Rod: Ah, hello MC! Have you come to see me? MC: *nods* Rod: Great, I'm happy to see you! I'm just teaching my dog some tricks. He really needs the exercise! You keep chickens, don't you MC? Could I take a look at them? MC: *nods* Rod: Great, thanks! Let's go right away. Rod and MC: *go to see MC's chickens* Rod: Wow, how cute! They look tough to take care of, though! - Much harder than a regular pet. (-2000 FP) - Want to give it a try? (+3000 FP) - Want to give it a try? Rod: *Music notes* Wow, you sure? Thanks, MC! Tell me everything I need to know, okay? Purple Heart Event

The next event can be seen when Rod is at a purple heart. After you've seen the first event, walk into your farmhouse between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday during sunny weather to see this event.

Rod: MC, good morning. I'm coming in! Rod: *enters MC's house* Rod: Hey, MC. Have you got some time? I was just about to head out to the top of the mountain for a picnic. Would you like to come with me? MC: *nods* Rod: *Music notes* Great! Let's go! Rod and MC: *head out for the mountain* Rod: Wow! It sure does feel good this high up, doesn't it! We're almost at the summit. MC: "!" *sweats* Rod: What's up, MC? Are you worn out? Do you need a break? - We're so close. I'm okay! - I need...need a break. Rod: *music notes* Let's press on, then. Just a little more and we'll be there, MC! It'll be worth it. MC: *nods* Rod and MC: *walk up the mountain and stretch* Rod: We made it! Great work, MC. I made lunch for us. Do you want to eat it together, MC? MC: "!" "..." Rod: Hey, that's not a very nice reaction! I live alone, so I cook! I cook pretty well! I've got confidence in today's spread, too. Come on, let's eat! MC: *nods* Rod and MC: *eat with music notes* Rod: Well? Tastes pretty good, doesn't it? MC: *nods* Rod: I know you'd like it! Confession Event

Give Rod a Ring on Saturday or Sunday in Sunny weather between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.. He must be at a blue heart color or higher. You also must need to have seen the Black and Purple Heart Events.

Rod: What?! Is this for me? This isn't a joke, right? Okay, MC. I have some things I want to tell you too. Let's go someplace quiet where we can talk. Rod and MC: *go to Goddess Spring* Rod: Hey, MC. I just want to double check. Was that ring back there really for me? MC: *takes out ring* Rod: Well, MC, you know how earlier I was saying that I have something to tell you? Actually...I really like you, too. I've been thinking it would be nice if we dated for a while now. That's to say I'm really happy. MC, please be my girlfriend! MC: *hands ring over* Rod and MC: *hearts* Rod: Nice! Hearing you feel that way is really like a dream come true. Hey, this is a great opportunity to change what we call each other. I think that should make us feel more like a real couple. What name should I call you by? - Keep the same name - Change it Rod: Okay, got it. MC it is. Reverse Confession

To trigger this, you need to first see both his Black and Purple Heart Events. Rod needs to have at least 25,000 FP, which means he's halfway between blue and green heart. Give him a total of 100 gifts, even gifts that give negative FP count. On a sunny, non-festival Saturday or Sunday, put the ring in your bag and walk into his house.

Rod: MC! You came to meet me! That's great! Do you, um...have some time? I've got something to talk to you about. No, it's not really that big of a thing, but it's kind of hard to discuss here. Follow me. Rod and MC: *go to Goddess Spring* Rod: I...er... T-The breeze is pretty nice, huh? I always liked the mountaintop. No... that's not what I want to talk about. What am I doing? You must give Rod a ring to see this event, as well as the ones to follow. If you have, and have seen the Purple Heart Event, enter Rod's house in between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on any day of the week, when he's at a green heart or higher.

Rod is looking at a bookshelf going *...* with annoyed scribbles. MC walks up to him causing him to go "!" Rod: Hey, MC! *Hearts* Thanks for coming. It's great to see you! MC: *Nods* "?" Rod: You want to know what I'm doing? Studying, that's what. MC: "?" Rod: I run a pet shop, so I need to know all I can about cats, dogs, horses and other animals. MC, do you remember how you let me take care of your chickens on your farm, before we started dating? MC: *nods* Rod: That was when I realized that I knew almost nothing about keeping birds as pets. MC: "..." Rod: *Annoyed scribbles* So I've started to read all sorts of books about animals, including birds. Just books aren't enough, though. The more I read the more I've been made to realize that I just don't know enough. MC: "..." Rod: It's pathetic that I run a pet store but there's all this stuff I don't know about pets. MC: "..." MC: Rod is trying hard but he's down about something. What should I say to him? - I'll study with you. - I'll teach you. - Try looking after some animals? - You're pathetic. - I'll study with you. Rod: "!" MC! MC: *nods* Rod: You'll help me with my studies? Thank you, MC. MC: *music notes* Rod: Along with you...I mean, with you at my side, I think I can do even better. Yellow Heart Event

In order to trigger this event, you must go to Rods house at 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. of any day in snowy, sunny, or rainy weather while playing as a girl character. Allen must be unlocked, and you must have seen every heart event before.

Rod is talking about MC, and Allen isn't paying attention. Rod says he is being rude, but Allen says that he talks about his girlfriend, and that's the only thing he talks about! MC walks in, and Allen tells you that Rod talks about you all the time, and that it's all he talks about. Allen asks you why you're dating him anyway. - Because he is funny to look at. - No real reason. - He is cheerful and kind. - His smile is cute. - Because he is funny to look at. (-2000 FP and +1 AP) Rod is very sad, but Allen is amused with your answer. - No real reason. (-2000 FP and +1 AP) Rod is happy you are his girlfriend, but disappointed that there isn't a reason. - He is cheerful and kind. (+3000 FP) Rod is a little embarrassed, but happy that you like him. - His smile is cute. (+3000 FP) Rod is very happy with your answer, but Allen is getting sick of the lovey-dovey, and leaves. With Allen gone, Rod says he also likes your smile, and that he wants to see it forever.
