Toby (タオ Tao?) is a character in Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility. He is one of the eligible bachelors to court.
Toby is a carefree fisherman who at first seems completely absorbed with nothing but fishing. Beyond that though, he's quite sensitive. He's reserved and polite, takes things slow, loves nature, and sleeping. He will sometimes fish with Renee, who is your rival for his affection.
Toby will give you your fishing rod when you first meet him. He can first be encountered by visiting Cream Beach (nearest to On the Hook).

Heart Events[]
2-Heart Event
Exit your house in the morning on a sunny day to find Toby outside. He will bring you a Char, which you can either accept or reject.
Accepting his gift will make Toby happy, while rejecting it will result in losing heart points with him.
4-Heart Event (Date Event)
Talk to Toby when he has 4 hearts before 11am on a sunny day. He will ask if you're free to have lunch with him at the Sundae Inn. If you agree to meet with him, go to the Sundae Inn between 12pm and 12:50pm for your lunch date.
If you don't show up on time, the event cannot be triggered. Toby will be upset next time you speak to him and remind you that you didn't show up. You will also lose some affection.
'5-Heart Event'
Exit your house in the morning on a sunny day to find Toby outside. He will bring you an Eel that he caught the night before, which you can either accept or reject.
Accepting his gift will make Toby happy, while rejecting it will result in losing heart points with him.
Request Event
Toby will come to your house and request that you catch a Rock Lobster and bring it to him. You can catch Rock Lobsters in the Winter or Spring off the Gull Islands or (more rarely) off of Waffle Town's beach.
You do not need an upgraded fishing rod, but having one will make it easier. Bring the Rock Lobster to Toby once caught to complete the request.
6-Heart Event (Confession Event)
Talk to Toby before 11am and he'll ask you to meet him later at Alan's Tree. Meet him at the tree between 12pm and 1pm and he will confess his love to you, which you may accept or deny.
Not showing up to meet Toby or giving him a negative response will result in losing heart points.
Proposal
After Toby reaches 8 hearts, you can propose to him. If you have gotten the blue bird event and received the Blue Feather, showing it to him will result in a proposal event, granted that you have met all of the other marriage requirements.
Upon showing Toby the feather, you arrive at Daren's Tree. Toby asks if you're serious about marrying him. You nod and he happily accepts. You'll then both be at Town Hall in front of Hamilton, who'll congratulate you both on the news. You will be asked when to schedule the wedding and Hamilton will set a date.
Wedding
On your wedding day, you will be automatically taken to the Church. You will meet your fiancée here, along with wedding guests. At wedding ceremonies, the bride's/groom's family will always appear. Hamilton will always be the wedding officiant.
After saying "I do," the marriage is official! You will be automatically transported back to your home after the ceremony. Wedding ceremonies only last until 10am, so you are still free to do farm chores for the remainder of the day afterwards. Your spouse will now live with you and your wedding anniversary will be marked on your calendar.
Child[]
The child you get from marrying Toby will have friendly and laid-back personality. Regardless of gender, they will have brown, dreamy eyes, a soft smile, and brown hair. The boy's hair will be medium brown and looks a little unkempt, like bedhead. The girl's hair will be light brown, shoulder-length, and curled at the ends.
Julius, Maya and Renee will have similar children.
Rival Events[]
(NOTE! In order to trigger rival events you must befriend your rival to two hearts for the first event, and then later three hearts for the final event. These events will occur in the same location at approximately the same time with the same needed conditions to trigger them.)
These rivals have two events that can be triggered which will ultimately lead to them getting married and having a child together. The rival for Toby's affection is Renee.
2-Heart Event
Enter Caramel Falls on a sunny or cloudy Monday at 1pm.
Then, you'll find Renee trying to catch a fish but the fish gets away and her fishing line breaks. Toby shows up just as the fish gets away. Renee hopes that Toby didn't see her trying to get that fish so she asked and Toby said that he just arrived. Renee told Toby that her fishing line broke from the fish so Toby then fixes it.
This event will happen when you are good friends with Toby if you're a male or good friends with Renee if you're a female and you have to get two hearts on the same gender out of these rivals in order to make this event happen.
3-Heart Event
Enter Caramel Falls on a sunny/cloudy Monday at 1pm.
